These are my themed projects. I used stain on them to show a theme of plants/flowers. They have petals and blades of grass on them. The art element is lines with the grass and the design element is contrast between the stain and the clay. The projects give a feel of nature.
This is my 3 cups without handles. They all are different heights from 2 1/2 to 5 inches tall. They are all glazed in white with shadow green and blue layered over it. The skill I learned with these cups was to not open too wide before pulling the wall. The art elements are the shapes of the cups and the design elements are pattern. The cups give a matching, flowing feeling.
This is my wheel altered project. It is 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. I used the light pink glaze in the small bottles to make pea sized polka dots, with clear over it. The new skill I learned was to actually change the shape of the project instead of letting it collapse on itself. The art element is the shape and the design element is the emphasis of color in the dots. The altered project gives a fun, flirty feeling.
This is my very tall project. Its 6 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. I stained it with black stain and drew pointed flowers along the sides. The new skill I learned with this project is to choke the top part to create the lip of the vase and to pull of the clay. The art element is the shape of the vase, and the design element is the pattern of the flowers. The tall project gives off a fancy, sophisticated feeling.
This is my fourth bowl I've made this year. It is about 5 inches tall and 5 inches wide. I glazed it in white first and then lightly coated it in forest green with a tiny bit of the light blue on top. A new skill I learned was how to layer the glaze a certain way to get a specific color. The art element is defiantly colors used in the bowl and the design element the balance between the white and green. The bowl gives off a very calming feeling.
This is my second extra credit project for this semester. It is a pot with pushed down edges. It is about 5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. I used water colors with this project by painting little squiggle lines in all colors going around the sides. A new skill I learned with this project is to make a wider base and then push the lip down to make it a unique shape. The art element is definitely the shape of the pot and the design element is movement with the colors flowing around the pot. The pot gives a fun, colorful feel that would look great with flowers planted in it.
This is my second plate, that is also about 7 inches in diameter. It has a clear base like the first one, but the petal colors are forest green and light blue. The new skill I learned with this one was to get a good lip on the plate to give it a decent rim on the edge. The art element is the space between the petals and the design element is the contrast between the colors. The plate has a darker tone to it then the first one, so I think it gives off a more winter look.
This is my first plate that I made. It is about 7 inches in diameter with a clear base and turquoise and burnt orange petal shapes around it. The new skill I learned was to center the clay, but make it very flat to get a plate shape. The art element is the color, while the design element is the texture between the petals. The feeling the plate gives off is very spring-y with the contrast between the bright colors.
This is my third bow this semester. It is about 6 inches wide and about four tall. It is dipped in turquoise glaze with oval/petal shaped burnt orange glaze. The new skill I learned was using the blue rib tool to get the curved bowl shape. The art element used was shape because the bowl has an emphasized roundness and the design element is the pattern of the burnt orange ovals. The bowl gives off a fun mood with the different colors and the pattern.
This is our frankenpot. I was in a group with Max and Ashland. We all split up who made what, and I joined all the pieces together. The pot has a sturdy base, with a middle section that sticks out and is middle heavy, then the top joins and goes back to the same width as the base. It is about 8 inches tall and about 5 inches wide in the middle. The glaze is a really pretty dark blue with a lighter blue on the bottom. The art element is the color because it really complements the shape and the design element is the proportion/scale because everything is even and not too big in some of the sections.
